The University of Pittsburgh Division of Neuropathology coordinates brain-only autopsies for families seeking a postmortem neuropathologic diagnosis, with next-of-kin authorization required after death. For families outside Western Pennsylvania, the division advises arranging brain removal at a local hospital and then coordinates shipping to Pittsburgh. It also accepts autopsy brain consultations from outside institutions.
