A physician or family member may request an autopsy at the University of Vermont Medical Center, with written or telephone consent from the legally designated next of kin and limitations such as religious stipulations honored. Examinations include external and internal examination, tissue sampling, microscopic analysis, X-rays, and digital photography. There is no charge for academic autopsies for Vermont residents.
